1. Brooklyn Bridge, New York – 3,500,000 posts
New York dominates the list, with five landmarks making the top 10, and at the top of the list is the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge, with a huge 3.5 million posts on Instagram.
This Gothic Revival bridge connects Manhattan to Brooklyn, and was the first bridge in the world to use steel for cable wire. Now a National Historic Landmark, if you want to get the perfect shot of Brooklyn Bridge, then head to Brooklyn Bridge Park at night time, where you can see the lights of the Manhattan skyline reflecting in the East River.
2. Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco – 3,100,000 posts
The world’s most second famous bridge falls aptly into second place. Situated on the west coast in California, the Golden Gate bridge is art deco in style, and when it opened in 1937, it was the tallest and longest suspension bridge in the world.
Whilst you might know it for its iconic red hue, it’s actually painted ‘International Orange’, which pops against the deep blue of the San Francisco Bay, making its number of Instagram posts well deserved.
3. Empire State Building, New York – 3,000,000 posts
Possibly one of the most iconic buildings in the world, the Empire State stands tall at 102 storeys in Manhattan’s Midtown. Art deco in design, it was built in 1931, and was the world’s tallest building until 1970, when the World Trade Center was constructed.
Head to one of the two observation decks, where you can enjoy views of all of Manhattan, and on a good day, you can even see across six states.
4. Rockefeller Center, New York – 1,000,000 posts
Located 15 blocks north of the Empire State Building, just off Fifth Avenue, lies the Rockefeller Center. Built during 1930-39, it’s another great example of art deco architecture, but it also has so much to see and do.
Not only does it have its own viewing deck (known as ‘Top of the Rock’); there are shops and restaurants inside; and the Rockefeller Center really comes alive at Christmas, with it being the perfect backdrop for pictures with its ice skating rink and Christmas tree.
5. Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York – 620,000 posts
Situated on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, for an iconic Gossip Girl shot, sit on the steps with over-the-knee socks and a headband to channel your inner Blair; or simply stand back and enjoy the beaux-arts architecture.
The Met is home to an ever-changing selection of exhibitions, but it’s perhaps most well-known for its annual Met Gala, where celebs dress as elaborately as possible and raise money for the Costume Institute.
6. Washington Monument, Washington DC – 592,000 posts
Built to commemorate George Washington, the monument is an iconic symbol of Washington DC, and is the world’s tallest obelisk. Constructed out of granite, marble, and bluestone gneiss, you can ride up 50 storeys in an elevator to enjoy views over the district.
There are a couple of places to get a good shot of this monument: we’d recommend either by the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, or in front of the Tidal Basin.
7. Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC – 456,000 posts
Kill two birds with one stone when it comes to aesthetic Instagram posts, with the Lincoln Memorial right next to the Washington Monument.
Built in honor of Abraham Lincoln, his imposing seated sculpture, which includes inscriptions of two of his most famous speeches, is housed within a neoclassical temple, which looks Greek in style. Stretching 190 feet long, and 119 feet wide, the memorial looks extremely powerful, and is the perfect place to take a photo for Instagram during your time in DC.
8. Willis Tower, Chicago – 401,000 posts
Formerly known as the Sears Tower, this skyscraper dominates the Chicago skyline, and is the first building in this city to make it to the list as the most photographed. The second tallest building in the USA, more than a million people visit its observation deck every single year.
Whether you want a photograph of the view of Chicago from the observation deck, or just want to take a picture of the building itself, you’re guaranteed a great shot for Instagram either way!
9. Lincoln Center, New York – 362,000 posts
Located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, just a block away from Central Park, lies the ninth most photographed building in the USA: the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Housing a range of iconic organizations, such as the New York City Ballet, and the New York Philharmonic, more than five million people visit it annually.
With its multiple buildings spanning across 16.3 acres, there are lots of photo opportunities for you at this iconic New York institution!
10. Chrysler Building, New York – 313,000 posts
Rounding off our top 10 most photographed buildings in the US, is Manhattan’s Chrysler Building. Located off 42nd and Lexington, this building shows the combination of art deco and streamline modern architecture at its finest.
Standing high at 1,046 feet, it was constructed in 1930, with the inside adorned with Moroccan marble walls, onyx and blue marble, and a sienna-colored floor.
Whilst many other iconic New York monuments made it to the list – including the Flatiron Building, and Radio City Music Hall (home to the Rockettes), the White House in DC came in at position 14, and Biltmore Estate in Asheville at 17th.
Las Vegas’ extravagant Bellagio Hotel and Casino, with its grand fountains came in at 21st place, with St. Louis’ Gateway Arch, and LA’s Getty Center not far behind.
